EDMONTON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) will deliver a second batch of petitions to Premier Klein's office this Monday March 18, the day before Alberta's provincial budget is presented to the Legislature. Since late January, over 5,000 Albertans have signed this petition calling on Premier Klein to honour his pre-election promise that "the only way taxes are going in this province is down." The petition asks Klein not to increase health care premiums or any other tax.
"There is no need to increase taxes, considering that Alberta spends more on government programs, per person, than all the other Canadian provinces," stated CTF-Alberta director John Carpay.
"Spending is up 57% higher than five years ago, while Alberta's population during that time grew 10%, and cumulative inflation was 14%," added Carpay.
"This government needs to prioritize its spending and focus on what is most important, not take more money out of Albertans' pockets. And above all, Premier Klein should keep his promise to Albertans that the only way taxes are going is down."
